What specific academic planning do you offer for military families?
Tom P. Haney Technical College offers academic planning for our veterans and military connected families through Student Services Office and Haney’s Success Center. The Student Service Office is staffed with a counselor that support academic scheduling. The Success Center is staffed with three teachers who assist students in academic planning, remediation, and career planning
What resources and educational opportunities do you offer for veterans and military families?
Tom P. Haney Technical College currently offers a variety of Career and Technical Programs. These programs include Automotive Collision Technology, Automotive Service Technology, Aviation Air Frame Mechanics, Aviation Power Plant Mechanics, Cosmetology, Marine Technology, Massage Therapy, Practical Nursing, Computer Systems and Information Technology, Medical Administrative Specialist, Electrician, Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration, Welding. We also offer community education programs that include Adult Basic Education, GED Preparation, English for Speakers of Other Languages and a Testing Center. Our Pearson Vue Testing Center offers a variety of professional test for our community members.
Tell us about your student-led transition team
We have a student-led transition team for our veterans and military dual enrolled students. The team’s goal is to help veterans transition to Tom P. Haney Technical College. The team meets periodically meets to discuss issues facing our veterans and military dual enrolled students. The sponsor for the transition team is a Haney alumni, current staff member and a veteran. What supports do you offer for military ESE children?
We partner with our local high schools to provide dual enrolled military students who are ESE students with the services and accommodations required by law in every student individualized education plan (IEP). Bay District Schools seek to offer a vast array of services to meet the diverse needs of all learners. Dual enrolled students may receive the following services one-on-one paraprofessional services, ESE Learning Labs, ESE case management, and support facilitation in full inclusion classrooms at their home school. Also Tom P. Haney Technical College maintains 504 plans for students who request them. Students also have access to our Success Center and Student Services department for academic and mental health support.
What military recognition events do you have planned?
Each year we honor our Veterans on Veterans’ Day by giving them a small token of appreciation for their service. We give our Veterans gifts like hats, t-shirts, or mugs. Each April we participate in the “Purple Up” Recognition with Bay District schools. We honor military connected students during that month. We also wear purple on designated days. We participate in Memorial Day recognitions in person and online. We also host and give tours to local high school JROTC programs each year. The purpose of the tours is to share the many opportunities available at Tom P. Haney Technical College. We participate in job/college fairs at Tyndall Air Force base to share information about Tom P. Haney Technical College
How do military children access mental health services on your campus?
All Tom P. Haney Technical College and Bay District School Students have access to the full slate of mental health services provided by Bay District Schools; to include a dedicated professional school counselor, and access to local community mental health organizations through our community of care referral system.
