There are a variety of financial assistance programs that are available for students to be able to attend Tom P. Haney Technical College. Students may apply based on financial need and/or merit. Financial assistance may be awarded from one or any combination of federal or state grants as well as institutional, state and private scholarships. Furthermore, all students are offered the right to appeal eligibility determination as set forth in the Florida State Board of Education rule 6A-20.0371 as recorded in the Florida Administrative Code, under the authority of §1009.42(1) Fla. Stat.

Typically scholarships are awarded to a student based on merit, achievement and/or attainment of academic requirements. Scholarships typically do not have to be repaid , unless there is a requirement set that has not been met by the student. In addition to an application, students may need to satisfy other requirements to attain eligibility for a scholarship.
Florida Bright Futures is a Florida scholarship program available to high school students who meet academic requirements. Bright Futures pays a portion of a student’s tuition. Current information on Bright Futures scholarship requirements, eligibility, etc., may be found here.
Scholarships in the General Scholarship fund (AGE students), Miscellaneous Scholarship fund (CTE students), and the Haney Financial Aid Fee fund are used to assist students in paying for tuition, fees, books, and supplies. Any current or prospective student may apply for these funds for assistance to start or continue a program based on the criteria of each fund. Applications are available in the Student Services offices and via email. The applications must be returned to the Student Services/Financial Aid offices.
All students, whether current or new, must meet the Adult Basic Skills requirements or be enrolled in remediation to be eligible for this scholarship. Students may apply for assistance as frequently as needed, but funds may not be awarded each time. Students who are awarded funding will be notified of the award or denial by phone or letter depending on time constraints. A complete list of guidelines is available in Financial Aid.

Through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program, CareerSource Gulf Coast offers career guidance and financial assistance with occupational skills training. Tuition, as well as training-related costs such as books, supplies, uniforms, shoes and certification/licensure fees required after completion of training may be covered.

The Florida Student Assistance Grant-Career Education is a need-based, state-funded grant for eligible Florida residents enrolled at least half-time (450 clock hours) in a technical or vocational certificate program. Priority is given to early applicants. Award amounts vary depending on each student's need and enrollment level. This program has very limited funding. The grant will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. For more specific eligibility information, contact the Financial Aid Office.
The purpose of the federally funded Pell Grant is to provide funds to qualified students who demonstrate financial need, which will assist them in obtaining the benefits of a post-secondary education. Every student enrolled in a Pell-eligible certificate program should complete and electronically submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov. Paper applications are also available by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED AID. To designate Tom P. Haney Technical College to receive your FAFSA information, use School Code 010826.
To be eligible for Title IV aid, students must have earned their high school diploma, GED or recognized equivalent prior to application. A Pell award is a grant provided for educational costs and does not have to be repaid unless the student has been over-awarded. Eligibility is determined by student and/or family financial status per the U. S. Department of Education regulations.

No. Award letters list tentative amounts that are based on your program, enrollment, and compliance with various policies. Your award amount will be adjusted based on your status across these areas.
Your Pell Grant funds should be applied automatically to your tuition and other due fees. Please contact the Financial Aid office if this does not seem to be the case.
The Pell Grant and other federal funds can pay for your books & supplies as long as you're eligible for disbursement and are expected to receive a refund from your financial aid.
Yes, you must fill out a new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each October.
Yes, if you fail to be present for the first three (3) days of class, you will be labeled a "No call/no show" and will be dropped from the program. Refunds will be issued after the first week of class. You may withdraw during the 10-day drop/add period and receive a prorated refund of all applicable fees.
The Financial Aid office begins disbursing financial aid approximately 3-4 weeks after the first day of class each enrollment period. Those first 3-4 weeks are used to verify enrollment & attendance.
Credit balance refunds are issued to students via check or direct deposit. Students may pick up checks at the Student Services office before or after class; this must be done within the span of three (3) days, or the check will be mailed to the address on file for the student.
It is the student's responsibility to update the address, email, and bank account information on file for various processes, including fund disbursement. Tom P. Haney Technical College is not responsible for any damages or inconveniences caused by acting on information that is provided and updated by the student at their discretion.
We offer a variety of resources to students to support their educational journey. Please speak to your instructor, our school counselor, and the Financial Aid department to see what help is available before formally withdrawing. If you still want to withdraw, please submit a withdrawal form. Your request will start being processed by the Student Services and Financial Aid departments on the next business day.
Yes! The law specifies how your school must determine the amount of Title IV program assistance that you earn if you withdraw from school. The Title IV programs offered at Tom P. Haney Technical College that are covered by this law are: Federal Pell Grants and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOGs). When you withdraw during your payment period, the amount of Title IV program assistance you have earned up to that point is determined by a
specific formula. If you received less assistance than the amount that you earned, you may be able to receive those additional funds once the Financial Aid Office has received your signed, credit balance acceptance letter. If you received more assistance than you earned, the excess funds must be returned by the school, and/or you, to the Department of Education, and a debit will show in your student account until the debt is cleared.
Yes! Every student who receives federal aid (e.g., Pell grant) has to make Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Please refer to the Student Handbook for more information.
