This program is designed to prepare students for a career in the health care industry. The Medical Administrative Specialist manages the administrative duties involved in patient care and is the liaison between inpatient, outpatient and medical staff.
This program is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of four (4) occupational completion points (OCPs).

The Medical Administrative Specialist program will prepare students for a career in the health care industry. Students will develop the necessary skills to become an outstanding liaison between patients and the medical staff. The Medical Administrative Specialist manages the administrative duties involved in patient care and is the liaison between inpatient, outpatient and medical staff.
The Medical Administrative Specialist student will develop communication skills, higher level thinking skills, and decision-making skills. In addition to learning soft skills, students will also learn medical terminology, medical office procedures, transcription of medical documents, medical law and ethics, and insurance and billing procedures. As part of the program, students will learn through simulated medical office software to enhance their learning process. In addition, the student will participate in a three-week work-based study learning opportunity with hands-on training at a local medical office in the community.
Through the National Healthcareer Association, qualified students will be eligible to take two national industry certification exams: Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS). Health professionals who earn credentials demonstrate their command of foundational occupational knowledge.
