Our Mission

The Success Academy provides free tutoring and support to equip Career Technical Education (CTE) students with essential skills in math, reading, and language tailored to their industry-specific career paths. We also deliver practical training in employability skills, computer proficiency and financial literacy to support program completion and long-term career success.

CASAS Goals Exams

All incoming CTE students take the free CASAS Reading and Math exams at the start of the semester during class time to establish a baseline score. These exams are required but do not affect program enrollment. Qualifying scores are used to fulfill the basic skills requirement for program completion. Instructors schedule exams.

Success Academy Life Skills Instruction

Every CTE student participates in Essential Education programs, including Work Essentials (employability skills) and Money Essentials (financial literacy).

  • Instructors allocate class or hybrid time for students to complete the programs.
  • The online platform is accessible 24/7; progress saves automatically and students may work ahead or catch up outside class.
  • Laptops and desktops, along with one set of earbuds, are provided to students working on campus.
  • Students receive pacing guides with deadlines and grading details.
  • Success Academy instructors monitor progress, share updates with program instructors and students, visit students regularly in-person or via BigBlue Button and offer ongoing support.
  • Students must complete all lessons, unit quizzes and final assessments by the assigned deadline (no skipping allowed). Retesting is permitted to improve scores.

Integrated Education & Training

The Success Academy meets Florida Department of Education IET requirements by integrating basic skills instruction (literacy, math, and English proficiency) with vocational training. This approach enables students to build foundational skills while gaining industry-specific knowledge and credentials, accelerating progress toward employment in high-demand fields and supporting economic self-sufficiency.

Basic Skills Requirement for Program Completion

IET students enrolled in a career certificate program of 450 clock hours or more are required to complete an entry-level basic skills examination, such as the CASAS Goals 2 in Reading and Math, within the first six weeks after admission into the program unless the student is otherwise exempt pursuant to § 1004.91, Fla. Stat. Requirements for career education program basic skills, and Rule 6A-10.040, F.A.C. A student may not receive a career or technical certificate of completion without first demonstrating the basic skills required in the state curriculum frameworks, adopted annually in Rule 6A-6.0571, F.A.C., for the career certificate program.
