The Administrative Office Specialist program is designed to prepare students for a career in business administration as an administrative assistant. An administrative assistant is a person whose job is to support an organization by coordinating office services and procedures. The Administrative Office Specialist student will learn how to complete office procedures tasks in an efficient manner using advanced software applications. The student will have the opportunity to become certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and certified in QuickBooks Pro.
Some of the duties performed by an Administrative Office Specialist include:
- Answers telephones and direct phone calls
- Produce and distribute correspondence, memos, letters, and forms
- Schedule appointments and update event calendars
- Maintain databases and filing systems
- Perform basic bookkeeping
- Take dictation
- Research and create presentations
- Prepare and monitor invoices and expense reports
- Ensure operation of equipment
- Maintain inventory
- Generate reports on behalf of the manager
- Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner

Age: 16 years or older
Basic Skills: Unless exempt, students' competency in reading, math, and language are assessed within six (6) weeks of program entry using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Required basic skill grade levels are: Reading 10A, Math 10A, and Language 10A.
