Master Automotive Service Technology 1 & 2

The Automotive Service Technology department offers two programs: Automotive Service Technology 1 and Automotive Service Technology 2. Both programs prepare students for entry into the automotive service industry. Students study safety regulations, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment skills, and customer service. Additionally students explore the requirements of automotive service as a career as well as being a professional automotive mechanic. 

 

Master Automotive Service Technology 1

Program Length: 1050 hours

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment and /or specialized training in the automotive industry. Continuing workforce training for persons previously or currently employed in the automotive industry is also provided.

 

The areas of specialization include: engine repair technician, automatic transmission and transaxle technician, manual drive train and axle technician, automotive suspension and steering technician, automotive brake system technician, automotive electrical/electronic system technician, automotive heating and air conditioning technician and automobile engine performance technician.

 

During the course of the program the student will learn to diagnose and repair:

  • Brake Hydraulic, Mechanical and ABS Systems

  • Engine Cooling, Exhaust, and Timing Belts/Chains

  • Engine Mechanical Problems to include internal component replacement

  • On Board Diagnostics Computer Controlled Systems

  • Steering and Suspension Systems

  • Automatic/Manual Transmissions and Transaxles

  • Electrical Systems

 

While at Haney Technical College students will train on a variety of shop equipment to ensure they are a well-qualified employment candidate when they graduate the program.

Admission Requirements

Age: 16 years or older

Basic Skills:  Unless exempt, students' competency in reading, math, and language are assessed within six (6) weeks of program entry.

Prerequisite - Master Automotive Service Technology 1

Admission Requirements

Age: 16 years or older

Students must have successfully completed Master Automotive Service Technology I before being permitted to enroll in Automotive Service Technology II. 

Basic Skills: Unless exempt, students' competency in reading and math are assessed within six (6) weeks of program entry. Required basic skill grade levels are: Reading 9, Math 10A, and Language 9. 

Program Advisory Estimated Entry-Level Salary Range $25,000-$50,000

Integrated Education and Training (IET) is an educational model that combines adult education and literacy activities with workforce preparation and training for a specific occupation or occupational cluster. The goal of IET is to help adults gain the skills and credentials they need for in-demand careers, and to advance their education and careers.
